Rape and sexual assault
If you have been raped or sexually assaulted, you should talk to someone straight away. Do not keep the attack to yourself. If possible, talk to a friend or relative or contact us.
We aim to be polite, patient, sensitive and non-judgemental. In many cases of rape and sexual assault, the victims, no matter what their sex, prefer to talk about their ordeal with women. If that is what you want, we will do our best to ensure that a female officer is present at any meeting.
If you want us to contact the police we can come to the police station with you and we can provide you with a list of local lawyers who speak English. However, only you can decide whether or not to take legal action: we cannot make this decision for you. Remember that if you chose not to report the crime immediately but change your mind later, forensic and other evidence may be lost.
If you wish to contact a police station in your local area, the main district police stations can be contacted on the following numbers:
Ayia Napa + 357 23 80 32 00
Larnaca + 357 24 80 40 40
Limassol + 357 25 80 50 50
Nicosia + 357 22 80 80 80
Paphos + 357 26 80 60 60
There are also police stations in many smaller towns and villages that may be easier for you to reach. If you are unsure where your nearest station is, please call the main district station and ask their advice.
There are no dedicated counselling services for victims of rape or sexual assault in Cyprus. However, we can provide you with information on what help is available in the UK.
You can download a leaflet called Rape and sexual assault overseas (PDF, 202 KB) with more information and details of counselling groups in the UK that you may wish to contact.
