Eating Disorders events (08/10/2009)

British Professor Janet Treasure, an expert in Eating Disorders is coming to Cyprus at the invitation of the British High Commissioner and Mrs. June Millett for a series of events in support of the Cyprus Eating Disorders Association.

During her visit  Dr Treasure will give a lecture on "Eating Disorders, New Translations into therapy" organised by the Psychology Department of the University of Cyprus on Wednesday 14th October (1600-1800) as well as lectures and workshops for medical professionals. She will also hold meetings with parents and carers of people who suffer from Eating Disorders.

To mark the visit the British High Commissioner Peter Millett and Mrs. Millett are hosting an evening of entertainment and a cocktail reception at the Presidential Palace on Tuesday 13th October at 1900 under the auspices of the First Lady, Mrs. Elsie Christofias, Patron of the Cyprus Eating Disorders Association.

The event, organised with the assistance of the Costas and Rita Severis Foundation and sponsored by the Hellenic Bank of Cyprus, will take the form of a Play of Voices based on the Hellenic Publication Monuments and Memories, Government House, written by Dr Rita Severis and Dr Michael Gibbon. Proceeds from this event will help the Cyprus EDA in their ongoing work.

Announcing the visit and the events, Mrs. June Millett said: "The number of people suffering from Eating Disorders (Anorexia, Bulimia, Binge Eating) is increasing at a frightening pace throughout the developed world and Cyprus is no exception."
