UK policy

The UK has a strong bilateral relationship with Cyprus, reflecting our two countries’ extensive  person-to-person contacts, our many shared economic, social and political interests and our position as EU partners.  We continue to build on this relationship through dialogue and the exchange of ideas.

The UK seeks a comprehensive, just and lasting settlement in Cyprus.  Our view is that only a settlement negotiated by Cypriots for Cypriots and acceptable to both sides, will ensure the prosperity and security of all Cypriots and stability in the region.

The “Turkish Republic of Northern Cyprus”

Although the UK does not recognise the “TRNC”, the Government acknowledges the interests and aspirations of the Turkish Cypriots.  Our High Commission in Nicosia maintains working level contacts with Turkish Cypriot representatives.
